8月21日，中國科學院南海陸地研討所發布新聞稱，2025年7月中旬以來，南沙群島永暑礁駐島環保部門與中國科學院島礁綜合研討中間（簡稱“島礁中間”）駐站科研人員在永暑礁近岸海域持續監測到國家一級保護動物儒艮活動。
7月8日，駐島環保人員初次在永暑礁東北方海域發現儒艮藍寶堅尼零件；8月2日-3日，人員近距離觀測并采集記憶，經專家鑒定確認為在中國年夜陸沿海已效能性滅絕的儒艮；8月11日，多單位科研人員再次目擊。這是永暑礁近半年來繼發現玳瑁、綠海龜后，初次發現儒艮持續活動，填補該海域物種分布空缺，也是近30年南沙及南海中部首獲科學記憶佐證的儒艮活體記錄，其單獨活動緣由待研討。
儒艮被稱“佳麗魚”，是全球陳舊陸地哺乳動物，IUCN列為易危物種，體長可達3米，對維護海草床生態關鍵，2022年被宣布在中國年夜陸沿海效能性滅絕。此次發現與2025年3月中國臺灣宜蘭海域記錄呼應，為研討其跨海域遷徙供給關鍵線索。
專家表現，儒艮與綠海龜、玳瑁的相繼發現，凸顯永暑礁生態系統價值，證明我國南沙島礁生態保護成效顯著。
